Job Requirements

Weatherford is hiring a Design Engineer I for our Spencer Road Research & Development facility in Houston, TX. The Design Engineer II will perform routine tasks in the design of new products and makes improvements to existing products. Learning to evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability. Work is overseen by leader to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular discipline. Resolves routine questions or problems, referring only complex issues to a higher level.

 

QHSE Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs fundamental engineering tasks within the established Product Development Process. These tasks include but are not limited to:
    • Strength of material problems
    • Stress analysis
    • Torque
    • Tension
    • Burst
    • Collapse
    • Compression
    • Complexed statics and dynamics
    • Hydraulics
    • Material/Coating selection
    • Cost estimation
    • Tolerance studies
  • Modifies existing products to meet internal or external customer requirements.
  • Creates engineering layouts for fit, form and function.
  • Prepares, checks and or directs the preparation of detailed drawings and layouts.
  • Coordinates the manufacture of prototypes.
  • Develops experimental test programs.
  • Builds test tools and test fixtures in the test lab.
  • Conducts experimental test programs
  • Analyses test data to determine if the product meets predetermined technical specifications.
  • Develops new products and services.
  • Prevents or eliminates defects in new or existing products.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of fundamental design tools such as threaded connections, seals, plated surfaces, heat treating, etc.
  • Understands the key limitations and advantages to manufacturing the product in different manners.
  • Conducts the analysis of failures and makes recommendations.
  • May utilize computer driven engineering software to complete complex analysis.
  • Manages projects both large and small with focus on delivering quality work on schedule.
  • Coordinates all activities associated with technical developments, scheduling, budgeting, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Interfaces with vendors and manufacturing
  • Assists others with all engineering activities to include working within the Product Development Process.
  • Anticipates possible failure modes on products and recommends solutions based on experience.
  • Performs comprehensive analysis of critical components to eliminate possible failure modes.
  • Routinely demonstrates the ability to converge on a solution in a commercially viable amount of time in the absence of extensive guidance.
  • Performs task/project of a larger scope than a Design Engineer I; Will lead specific tasks in the project scope.
  • Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.
  • Performs various other duties and activities as assigned by senior management within the physical constraints of the job.
  • Working knowledge of Oil & Gas downhole equipment - (packers, motors, fishing, intervention equipment, etc).
  • Exposure to downhole products and operations.
  • Performs various other duties and activities as assigned by senior management within the physical constraints of the job.

Experience

Essential

  • 0-2+ years of engineering experience 
  • Microsoft office suite
  • Proven technical problem-solving ability
  • Willingness to learn new skills.

Preferred

  • Project Management Experience - Preferred
  • Working knowledge and exposure to downhole Oilfield tools as well as Rubber and Elastomer products.
  • Creo/Pro-E, FEA/CFD design and detail
  • Working knowledge of API 11D1 / ISO14310 / API 6A / DS-1 as well other API specifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
