Job Title: Retrofit Engineer Team Lead
Reports to: Project Engineering Manager
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Retrofit Engineer Team Lead to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and growing our Retrofit Engineering program. You have the freedom to help set standards, look for new technologies that can be implemented, and guide our program as it continues to grow. In conjunction to leading the team, you will also be analyzing and reverse engineering products to gain a deep understanding of their design, function, and construction. This information will be used to create detailed drawing packages for the development of new Zeeco products and improve or replace existing ones for our customers.
Job Duties:
Lead a team of 2-3 retrofit engineers.
Leading and growing our retrofit engineering program into the future.
Reverse engineer a variety of products to understand their design, function, and construction to in turn provide an optimized and improved engineered solution for the customer.
Use various techniques and tools, such as tape measure, calipers, 3D scanners, destructive or non-destructive inspection, and positive material identification testing to analyze products.
Create detailed reports and drawings documenting the reverse engineering process and results.
Communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the information gathered is used effectively.
Coordinate drafting work for jobs. Make sure all required drawings are completed and accurate. Review customer mark-up prints and instructs drafting how to disposition.
Establish and track the cost budget for jobs by working with Sales Department and cost specialists.
Maintain delivery schedule for job based on customer requirements and Zeeco workloads including coordination of document approvals, drafting, purchasing, manufacturing, shipping, and quality control. Pre-order materials as required for meeting delivery.
Maintain project flow and direction through continued communication and heroic support for all internal support groups.
Inform Quality Control Department of customer/job specifications.
Coordinate all required technical and commercial correspondence related to the job. This includes all internal communications and all correspondence with the Customer, end user, sales reps, and/or outside consultants.
Instruct drafting and support staff when and what drawings are to be sent to any parties involved in the project.
Notify sales and estimating departments when changes occur to the scope of supply and/or design of the equipment that affect the price. Coordinate written advice and price resolution with Customer concerning price revisions.
Notifies Order Entry Department concerning revisions to Shop Order write-up and make sure this document is properly revised.
Notifies Accounting Department when billings are to be sent.
Perform other related duties as assigned. Some of these duties may include:
Test furnace duties
Burner design
Quotation/sales support
Field/sales trips
Design Engineering
Keep up-to-date with industry developments and emerging technologies
Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology and/or five (5) years related experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3D scanning and/or 3D printing experience preferred.
Entrepreneurial self-starting person who is willing to think outside the box.
Business development and operation skills.
Needs to have the self-drive to develop and implement new standards and processes.
Enjoys tinkering with parts and can understand mechanical components and how things work.
Keen understanding of standard manufacturing and machine shop practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills and outside-the-box thinking with a more hands-on approach to solving problems
Strong technical and analytical skills
Friendly and positive communicator that can conduct several face-to-face interactions with customers
Some travel will be required (Less than 10%)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with CAD software and other engineering tools, preferably Inventor
Able to move/lift heavy equipment (50-60 lbs).
Must have personal computer skills
