The Principal Innovation Engineer is a senior technical leader dedicated to identifying and developing unique and innovative solutions to business problems. This role involves close collaboration with product managers to explore technological possibilities and guide the development of cutting-edge products. The Principal Innovation Engineer combines deep technical expertise with creative problem-solving skills to drive innovation and strategic growth within the organization.

This is a chance for a very creative technologist to solve business problems for a large-scale IT Modernization project for the State of California. This is a remote role with travel to Sacramento, CA 4-5 times per year. 
Candidates must be based in the USA and available to work pacific standard time business hours. 

Responsibilities: 
  1. Innovative Solution Development: Identify and develop unique, innovative solutions to complex business problems. Leverage emerging technologies and creative approaches to create breakthrough products and services.

  2. Technical Guidance for Product Managers: Work closely with product managers to understand business needs and provide guidance on technological possibilities and options. Help translate business requirements into innovative technical solutions.
    • Outcome: Product managers equipped with a clear understanding of technological capabilities and options, enabling informed decision-making.
  3. Research and Exploration: Conduct research on emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive landscapes. Stay ahead of technological advancements and evaluate their potential impact on the organization.
    • Outcome: Proactive identification of new technologies and trends that can drive innovation and strategic advantage.
  4. Prototyping and Proof-of-Concepts: Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate the feasibility and potential of new ideas. Collaborate with engineering teams to transition successful prototypes into full-scale development.
    • Outcome: Validated concepts that pave the way for new product development and innovation.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product management, engineering, design, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of innovative solutions. Facilitate open communication and coordination across teams.
    • Outcome: Seamless integration and alignment of innovative solutions with business goals and product strategies.
  6. Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering teams on innovative practices and emerging technologies. Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the organization.
    • Outcome: A knowledgeable and innovative engineering team capable of driving technological advancements.
  7. Strategic Vision and Planning: Contribute to the development of the organization’s innovation strategy and technology roadmap. Align innovation initiatives with business objectives and long-term goals.
